FRIDLEY, Minn. -- Police are seeking the help of the public to identify the suspect in a daytime sexual assault involving a girl under the age of 13.
Just after 2 p.m. Monday, the Fridley Police Department was dispatched to a sexual assault call that took place at a Wal-Mart located at 8450 University Avenue NE in Fridley.
According to authorities, the assault took place in an open shopping area with the victim's parents and older sibling standing nearby.
Wal-Mart security captured footage of the suspect following the victim and her family around the store and the sexual assault that took place.
"Not only was this crime captured on video in its entirety, but what is particularly scary from our standpoint about this case is that [in the video] you see the suspect stalking this family and this girl through the store for several minutes. It is almost as if he is a predator stalking his prey," Anoka County Commander Paul Sommer said Thursday.
Sommer said it is this fact - and that the suspect did this in a very public place - that should be cause for alarm.
"If he is displaying this kind of behavior he is very dangerous," Sommer said. "If he did this in a public crowded area, it makes us concerned about what he might do if we were to encounter a child alone or removed from other people."
The suspect is described to be a white male, approximately 30 years of age with an average build. He has sparse facial hair. He was wearing a brown, work-type hooded jacket and a black stocking hat with red flames.
The incident is still under investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Anoka County Sheriff's Office or Fridley Police Department.
