LAKE DELTON, Wis. - Eight fire departments were called to a blaze at a Wisconsin Dells area resort.
Authorities say no one was hurt when a fire broke out at the Lighthouse Cove Resort in Lake Delton Tuesday.
Cab driver Joe Morrison spotted smoke coming from the resort shortly after 7 a.m. Morrison tells WMTV-TV flames were shooting about 30 feet above the roof. Morrison called 911 and started beating on doors of the resort units.
"There are four stories and it started on the fourth floor, got into the attic space, and it made it quite a bit bigger. We were just able to contain it to just a few units. A lot of the building is affected by smoke and water damage," Darren Jorgenson, Lake Delton Fire Department chief, told WISC television.
All guests escaped safely. Fire officials say many of the units are vacation homes.
At least eight units suffered fire damage, but many more suffered extensive water damage, fire officials said.
Lake Delton Fire Chief Darren Jorgenson says the state fire marshal is investigating.
