Montevideo murder victim stabbed more than 30 times

MONTEVIDEO, Minn. - A Montevideo woman is dead after police say a co-worker followed her to a parking lot and stabbed her over 30 times.

The incident happened around 8:45 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Montevideo Pizza Ranch where the suspect and victim both worked, according to Montevideo Police Chief Adam Christopher.

Police responded to the scene and found a woman lying on the ground and a man standing over her holding a knife.

The victim, 18-year-old Vinessa Lozano of Montevideo was taken to the Chippewa County Montevideo hospital where she died from her wounds.

The suspect, a 24-year-old co-worker, was taken into custody.  He is in the Yellow Medicine County jail awaiting charges.  KARE 11 is not naming him because he has not been formally charged. 

According to Montevideo Police, the suspect has no prior convictions.
