WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - The West Des Moines Community Schools district has barred "grinding" and other dirty dancing from school events, starting with Valley High School's winter formal next week.

Some students and parents have complained about the sexually suggestive dance moves. While "grinding," a boy usually faces a girl's back side and they rub their bodies together.

District spokeswoman Elaine Watkins-Miller told The Des Moines Register (http://dmreg.co/yhIdIm) that administrators wanted to ensure a respectful environment would prevail at the dances.

In a letter sent home with students Tuesday, Valley High principal Jim Mollison says "any dancing that involves groping, grinding, or public displays of affection will result in those students being asked to leave."
