WAUKEE, Iowa - A cellphone's GPS chip and timely use of a computer program helped a Waukee man recover his wife's pricey phone.
Allison Peterson told The Des Moines Register that she couldn't find her iPhone on Friday. She soon realized it had fallen into an old recycling bin she'd tossed.
She'd activated the phone location program on her computer and saw the phone's GPS chip blip moving with the garbage truck through her neighborhood.
Peterson found the truck, and the driver said Peterson could look for the phone at the landfill. She called her husband, Mark, who headed for the landfill.
He and several landfill workers pored over the truck's load and found the flattened bin. He found the phone in it and called his wife with the good news.
