GAYLORD, Minn. - A southern Minnesota woman was arrested Wednesday for her alleged role in the death of a newborn in April of 2001.
The Sibley County sherrif's office says Amy Ann Romero, formerly Amy Aune, gave birth to a baby girl at her Jessenland Township home before taking the baby into a wooded area and leaving her to die.
Romero, now 29, was arrested in Sullivan County, Missouri, on Wednesday.
She is charged with three counts of murder, two counts of manslaughter and one count each of child neglect and child endangerment. All counts are felonies.
KARE 11 reached Sibley County attorney David Schauer by phone Thursday afternoon. Schauer would not go into details about what took so long in making the arrest or how long an investigation into the case had been going on.
Bond for Romero was set at $25,000. Her next court appearance is March 15.
Romero's attorney did not return phone calls for comment, but a source close to her family tells KARE 11, the family did not know she was pregnant in 2001.
According to Romero's Facebook page, she has three children.
Jessenland Township is approximately three miles northwest of Henderson, Minn.
