Some of the hockey equipment found near Wayzata High School.
WAYZATA, Minn. - Some might see it as just a trailer.
Not the folks with Minnesota PowerHockey. To them, the equipment trailer that holds their special equipment symbolizes opportunity, and the chance to do something many who use motorized wheelchairs cannot.
That opportunity is at least temporarily gone, as late Wednesday or early Thursday someone stole the PowerHockey trailer from the parking lot of Carburetion & Turbo Systems in Shakopee, where it is parked during the winter months.
The equipment that was in the trailer was later found dumped on a road outside of Wayzata High School. While some of the equipment, including padded boards, hockey sticks, hockey nets, jerseys, and a sound system was recovered by the staff at Wayzata High School, some of it was damaged by cars running over it.
The trailer itself is valued at $3,000. PowerHockey officials describe it as a white, 6x12' fully-enclosed single-axle trailer with a blue PowerHockey logo on both sides.
Unfortunately, this is the second trailer that has been stolen from PowerHockey in four years.
Minnesota PowerHockey is seeking tips on the location of the trailer, as well as donations to cover the expenses of replacing any missing or damaged items, and a replacement trailer if the stolen one is not found before the season opens April 28.
Anyone with information on the stolen trailer or interest in making a donation is asked to contact Craig McClellan at (763) 535-4736, or craigm@powerhockey.com.
