LONG LAKE, Minn. - Thieves thought they made a haul when they broke into a Long Lake jewelry store early Friday and made off with a bunch of wedding rings.

Turns out, the crooks were fooled by a bunch of fakes.

The owners of Albers Jewelry say thieves broke into the store at 1935 West Wayzata Boulevard in Long Lake around 2:40 a.m. and trashed the place, making off with a bunch of rings.

What they didn't know is that most of the rings were cubic zirconia and silver, and that most of the store's expensive rings are locked away in a different part of the building.

Wayzata's police chief says investigators are looking at the possibility Friday's heist is related to one that took place January 25, when crooks broke into Graham Jewelers in downtown Wayzata and made off with thousands in merchandise.

The same group of crooks has been tentatively tied to two other heists as well.
