CAMPBELLSPORT, Wis. - The halls are quiet at Campbellsport High School Monday where students are grieving the deaths of three classmates and hoping six others will survive and recover from injuries suffered in a weekend crash.
Katie Berg, 16, died Sunday at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, according to a Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department. She had been taken to Froedtert by helicopter from the crash site Saturday with critical injuries.
Berg was a passenger in a Chevy Tahoe driven by 18-year-old Carly Ottery. All nine girls in the SUV are students of the Campbellsport School District. Counselors and staff were at the high school Saturday and Sunday meeting with students and parents.
Also killed in the crash were Sabrina Stahl, 15, and Caitlin Scannell, 17. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The nine girls were in an SUV that left a road near the high school early Saturday, crashed into a field and rolled several times. Investigators say some of the girls weren't wearing seat belts.
Principal Kristen Langer says the conditions of the six injured girls at two hospitals have not deteriorated. Langer says the girls were friends who played soccer and volleyball.
Some of the victims have siblings at the high school. The principal says students are meeting with counselors in the school library where they can watch Facebook videos, see pictures of the girls and leave messages for them in notebooks.
