MINNEAPOLIS - Our only second blast of arctic air of the season is moving in Thursday night into Saturday.
After a mild Thursday with temps in the 30s and sunshine, Friday will bring a big change. Winds will shift to out of the north/northwest late Thursday evening at 10-20 mph bringing in air that will drop our temps to the single digits above zero early Friday.
We will struggle to reach highs in the low teens Friday afternoon, setting us up for a cold night Friday night.
Expect to wake up to temperatures near zero early Saturday morning. Without any real snow pack in the whole region the arctic air modifies quickly with strong February sunshine. Expect highs back in the 20s Sunday and back in the 30s Monday and most of next week.
Friday's high temperature will the first in almost two weeks that will be below 30 degrees! February temperatures are averaging already 11 to 12 degrees above normal with a third of the month almost complete.
Meteorological winter consists of the months of December, January, February. December and January were both in the top-10 warmest, and February is off to a rather mild start already with no end in sight to the overall warmer than normal temps, save for a couple cold days ahead.
