GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The second winter storm system of the week will push its way into Minnesota later today, dropping more snow showers into western Minnesota and into the south central portion of the state overnight into Thursday morning.
The heaviest band of fresh snow, between one and three inches, looks to fall just south of the metro but it will be a narrow area that could still shift a little north or south.
The accumulations will cut-off sharply north of this band, where dry air will eat away at the snow shower activity. Areas like Brainerd and St. Cloud may just see a few flakes, with the metro seeing a dusting to possibly one inch in some southern suburbs.
Areas such as Redwood Falls, Mankato, Owatonna, LaCrosse are the most likely candidates to see as much as three inches.
We then get a break for a few days with cooler air moving in. Highs will cool to around 30 for Friday into the weekend, but a bigger, more potent storm system then takes aim at the upper midwest sometime Sunday.
The beginnings of what could be a significant snow for us is still out in the middle of the north Pacific so details are hard to forecast at this point, but stay tuned!
