BROOKLYN PARK, Minn--Brooklyn Park police investigators are looking into a fire overnight Wednesday that destroyed a number of vehicles outside an auto repair shop.
Fire crews and Brooklyn Park police were called to T.N. Transportation and Automotive Inc. at 6400 Lakeland Avenue just before 4 a.m. on a call of a vehicle fire. When they arrived they found multiple vehicles burning in two separate areas of the parking lot.
Firefighters struggled to get the situation under control due to large amounts of fuel leaking from the burning vehicles.
Fortunately there were no injuries.
Brooklyn Park police spokesman Inspector Todd Milburn says at least 10 vehicles were destroyed or damaged. At this point police are pursuing the fire as a likely arson.
Witnesses tell police that two males were seen running away from the business just before flames were spotted.
Brooklyn Park police officers and Hennepin County Sheriff K-9 units searched for the men were unable to locate anyone.
This is the third suspicious fire in the Twin Cities since Saturday. Police do not believe this latest one is connected to earlier cases because they are searching for adult men.
Authorities are investigating if two playground fires from over the weekend are related. The playground at Jordan Park Elementary in Minneapolis was ruled arson. No one has been arrested. The fire at Park Brook Elementary in Brooklyn Park was also ruled arson. A juvenile was arrested and released in that case. Police are looking for any connection.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
