CARLTON COUNTY, Minn. - The search for a missing Minnetonka man is over after he was discovered dead in northeastern Minnesota.
The Carlton County Sheriff's Department says a snowmobiler discovered an abandoned vehicle on a trail in a remote area of Clear Creek Township Thursday night, then dialed 911.
Deputies responded to the scene and found the body of 81-year-old Gerald Maloney on the ground near his vehicle.
Maloney's body was turned over to the Carlton County Coroner's office. Investigators say no foul play is suspected in the death.
Police had been trying to locate Maloney since he was reported missing Monday night. Family members say he left home around 11:30 a.m. for an auto repair appointment in Golden Valley and never made it there.
There was great concern as Maloney was struggling with memory issues.
