MINNEAPOLIS - A Minneapolis school is putting on it's first ever musical production thanks to the NBC hit show "SMASH."

Watershed High School is one of a handful of schools across the country picked for the "SMASH: Make a Musical" program. They've been given rights to a junior Broadway show and also money to pay for things like lights and costumes.

On Wednesday a teacher from New York was flown in to work with the students. "It's something we wouldn't normally be able to do. So, for us, it's great and it's giving our kids some more self esteem. Some of these people hardly talk at school and then all of a sudden they're on stage and they absolutely shine," says Destiny Sparks with Watershed High School.

The kids picked the show "Into the Woods" to perform. It hits the stage May 19th and 20th at the Parkway Theatre in Minneapolis.
