OTSEGO, Minn. - Officials are calling a metro area cement plant a total loss after a hot-burning overnight fire Monday in Otsego.
Fire crews from four departments were called to the the Knife River Corp. Cement Plant at 9625 70th Street Northeast around 4:30 a.m. They found part of the roof already caved in and heavy flames leaping from the rest of the structure.
A company official says a plant manager who lives nearby heard the fire trucks, hurried to the plant and was able to move a number of Ready Mix trucks away from the plant so they wouldn't burn.
Still, Jerry Lang estimates damage to the facility at $800,000.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Crews were still mopping up into the late morning.
