GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Toss those cables, and go wireless this summer.

You can jam out anywhere you go, as long as you have the right equipment.

KARE 11 sunrise is turning up the volume, and checking out some portable speakers that wirelessly connect to your phone, tablet or computer so you can play music, stream movies and bring games to life.

Julio Ojeda-Zapata, consumer-technology reporter with the St. Paul Pioneer Press, brought all the cool new speakers to the KARE 11 Backyard. '

iFrogz Boost. This is small, low-cost speaker unit has a cool twist: You place a phone atop the unit and audio from the phone comes out of the speaker. This is neat, but audio is so-so.

Logitech UE Air Speaker. A premium speaker designed to work with Apple's iPhone and iPad via the Apple wireless technology called AirPlay. You can also dock the phone or tablet.

iHome iC50. A compact clock radio with a twist: It lets Android phones dock on top. That's unusual because most speakers with phone docks are designed to be used with Apple's iPhone.

Jawbone's Big Jambox. This is the newer, larger version of the popular Jambox, which lets phones and tablets connect via Bluetooth wireless. The Big Jambox is attractive and has big sound.

Logitech Mini Boombox. This Bluetooth minispeaker hits the sweet spot of mobility, affordability and audio quality. It's perfect to take on trips and perfect for the window sill while doing dishes.
