MINNEAPOLIS - A Minneapolis man stands charged with first degree criminal sexual assault after the alleged molestation of his friend's 8-year-old son.
Martell Taylor, age 26, is being held in the Hennepin County jail. Police say he has a previous conviction for sexually assaulting a male child.
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the Fourth Precinct on June 6 following a report of the sexual assault of a child. The boy's mother told police that she left her eight year old son in the custody of her friend while she ran errands.
Investigators learned that Taylor allegedly took the child to the Salvation Army in downtown Minneapolis and entered a bathroom. There he performed a sex act on the child.
The boy was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault exam and then to the Corner House for a forensic interview. During the interview the victim described what the defendant did to him.
Squads soon located Taylor and took him into custody. Police say he admitted to portions of the child's account.
If found guilty Martell Taylor faces up to 30 years in prison.
