ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson added new allegations of wrongdoing by hospital debt collector Accretive Health Tuesday.
The filings say a stolen laptop containing unencrypted sensitive information on 23,000 patients also contained the names of about 242,000 Fairview Health System patients.
Swanson also said Accretive reported that nine company laptops containing patient data were stolen in 2011 alone. It further indicated that over 30 company laptops had not been encrypted.
In addition the filing accuses Accretive of collecting debts in Minnesota for a period of time without proper licensure and sending collection letters to Minnesota patients that were signed by fictitious individuals who posed as "patient financial advisors."
Accretive did not immediately respond to MPR News' inquiries by phone or email. The company has disputed Swanson's previous allegations.
