MINNEAPOLIS - A City Council zoning committee has denied the request to rezone a site at 27th and Lyndale Avenue to allow for a Trader Joe's to move in.
The proposal would have also included an attached liquor store.
It would have been the first Minneapolis location for Trader Joe's.
Some council members were on record prior to Thursday's meeting in opposition of rezoning to accommodate a single business.
The decision comes despite recommendations for the project by city development staff.
The local neighborhood group, Lowry Hill East Neighborhood Association, had not officially supported the project. The association's board did vote against a measure to support the rezoning.
