MINNEAPOLIS -- Hip-hop artist Brother Ali was among the 13 people arrested during an Occupy Homes MN protest at a Minneapolis home that's become the center of the foreclosure debate in the Twin Cities.
The Cruz family, who owns the home near 40th St. and Cedar Ave., has traveled to Pittsburgh. They plan to go to the company's headquarters there at noon Friday to demand negotiations. They say PNC Bank refused to negotiate with them during a meeting Thursday.
Occupy Homes MN claims the home was put into foreclosure because of an error by PNC Bank. They say the bank broke an agreement to work with the homeowners to work to correct the problem.
Occupy activists say an estimated 125 protesters gathered at the Cruz home Thursday to support the Cruz family in their effort to keep their home.
Minneapolis Police say 13 of the protesters acted peacefully when they crossed the police line and asked to be arrested Thursday night. A photo provided by Occupy Homes MN shows musician Brother Ali being arrested. Police say the two women and 11 men were booked into the Hennepin County Jail for trespassing.
It is not the first time protesters have been arrested at the home. Five people were arrested in May when they chained themselves together and refused to leave the south Minneapolis home when Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies served an eviction notice.
