Search for missing boater on Lake Minnetonka
MINNEAPOLIS - Authorities will resume their search of Lake Minnetonka Wednesday for a 20-year-old man who disappeared after jumping off a boat.
The mother of Kennedy Maddox says he was floating with friends near Big Island around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when he jumped in to cool off but never resurfaced.
Four other young adults were aboard the 20-foot boat. They dove in and searched the water but could not find their friend. The group was celebrating their recent graduation from Minnetonka High School.
Maddox's mother says he knew how to swim but was not wearing a life jacket.
The Hennepin County sheriff's office is using sonar to help find the man. A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter and fire departments from Long Lake, Wayzata, and Excelsior are also helping in the search.
