MINNEAPOLIS - The body of a drowning victim was recovered from Lake Minnetonka by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday.

Family members say Kennedy Maddox, 20, was celebrating his high school graduation on a boat with some friends on Tuesday afternoon when he jumped in the water to cool off.

Irene Maddox, Kennedy's mother, says a friend jumped in after him, but her son never surfaced.

She says her son knows how to swim, but wasn't wearing a life jacket.

Authorities, who aren't releasing the name at this time, said four other people who were on the boat, were unable to locate the victim.

Sonar equipment located the body in 67 feet of water, about one mile from Big Island.

Members of the Sheriff's Office Dive Team made the recovery at 6:20 p.m. The Long Lake Fire Department assisted with the recovery.
