CENTERVILLE, Minn. -- Authorities in Anoka County say the search for a missing boater, is called a "recovery effort."

Police received the report around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, and responded to Centerville Lake in the 7200 block of Main Street in Centerville.

"Some fishing boats were able to recover one of the boaters," said Detective Justin Bloch with the Anoka County Sheriff's Department.  "But a second boater remains missing at this time."

Authorities say two men were fishing from a canoe when it capsized in 8-10 feet of water.

"It's muddy and murky out there," said Gary Corr.  "We did all we could."

Corr was one of several neighbors who heard screams and tried to help.  He was able to bring one of the boaters to safety, but couldn't find the second victim.

"We dove in several times," he recalls.  "They weren't wearing life jackets, I don't understand that.
