SHAKOPEE, Minn. -- Due to the extreme heat, Canterbury Park is canceling the races and festivities planned for the 4th of July.
"Due to the forecasts which call for dangerously high temperatures and heat indices, the decision has been made to cancel racing and our special events originally scheduled for July 4th," said Canterbury Park President Randy Sampson. "The health of both our equine and human atheletes as well as our race fans is always our primary concern," he added.
The 4th of July promotions, which include free hot dogs, a championship wiener dog race and a hot dog eating contest, will now take place on Saturday, July 7th. Post time on Saturday is 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday night's races and fireworks show will be held as originally planned.
