GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Longtime KARE 11 sports anchor Randy Shaver has been named the weeknight news co-anchor of KARE 11 News.

Shaver will join co-anchor Julie Nelson at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. beginning July 16, 2012.

"This new team underscores KARE 11's home-grown approach to sharing news and information," John Remes President and General Manager of KARE 11 said. "Julie's experience and leadership is a perfect pairing with Randy's news know-how and community commitment."

"Obviously I'm excited for a new challenge at KARE," Shaver said.  "The great news for me is that I still get to do the Prep Sports Extra in the fall which I love so it's kind of the best of both worlds for me right now."

Shaver will continue to host the KARE 11 Prep Sports Extra as he has done for the last 28 years.

Randy has been an integral part of KARE 11 since 1983.  He has been a sports reporter, weekend anchor, and the sports director beginning in 1994.

This is the first of several staff changes that will be announced in the coming weeks.
