Teenager killed after driver loses control of SUV near Harding High School

ST. PAUL, Minn. - A teenage girl has died and a teenage boy is hospitalized after the two were struck by an SUV while sitting outside of Harding High School on Thursday afternoon, according to St. Paul police.

Officials said the driver, a man in his 50s,  was traveling on 3rd Street and taking a left onto Hazelwood Street when he lost control of his SUV, struck a fire hydrant and rolled the vehicle into a grassy area near the school where the boy and girl were sitting.

Ashley Moore lives near the area. She came out to look after hearing a loud crash. She said she went over to the scene where she saw the boy crying hystericaly. She tried to help but couldn't.

The age of the girl is not being released at this time, but police said she was a summer school student. The boy has been taken to Regions Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Police said they are questioning the driver of the SUV about the incident.
