WASHINGTON - Federal aid has been approved for flood victims in Duluth as well as other parts of Minnesota.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the aid on Friday.
The period was between June 14-21. Federal funding is available to state and eligible tribal and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations, officials said.
The counties that will share the aid are Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Crow Wing, Dakota, Goodhue, Kandiyohi, Lake, Meeker, Pine, Rice, Sibley, and St. Louis. The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe are also eligible for the FEMA assistance.
Mark A. Neveau has been named Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area.
Neveau said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
