MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - A 65-year-old man is recovering from lacerations and puncture wounds after he was attacked by a Maplewood police dog while out for a walk.
Bob Rozmarynowski tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press he was walking about 3:30 a.m. Monday when he heard someone yell. Rozmarynowski hid behind a tree and saw a man run past him and over a fence. Then, he says, a police dog came at him.
Rozmarynowski says the dog bit his back and thigh before an officer pulled it off him.
Maplewood police agreed to pay his medical bills. Capt. Dave Kvam says he told Rozmarynowski the department is sorry, but says the canine pursuit was justified and the officer responded reasonably.
Authorities later arrested the suspect they were seeking on a drug charge.
