CORMORANT, Minn. -- Becker County authorities continue to search for the boaters involved in a hit and run accident.

On July 4, a West Fargo family was in their boat on Big Cormorant Lake when another boat started driving toward them.  Terry Erickson, 39, yelled to his family to jump into the water, but only his friend and wife were able to follow the command.

Taryn Erickson and the friend were not injured.  But 9-year-old Thomas and 4-year-old Trista were bruised and scraped.  Trista also had a gash on the back of her head that later had to be stapled.  Meantime, the boat actually hit Terry.

"They came up and over the back part of the boat and hit him and came down and landed," said Taryn Erickson.

Erickson said while witnesses were helping the family, the other boaters first argued with them then simply sped away. Now the family is hoping those boaters decide to do the right thing.

"I think they're having a hard time with the decision that they made, and I really do hope they make the right decision now and come forward and take responsibility for what they've done," she said.

Terry is being treated for a broken leg and pelvis at Hennepin County Medical Center.  Meantime, authorities continue to search for the owners of the vessel, described as an 18- to 20-foot white or cream-colored boat with cabin style helm and a darker stripe along the side.  Authorities say the boat also likely has significant front-end damage.  Anyone with information is asked to call police.
