GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- An apparent drowning at a Golden Valley lake Saturday night has claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, a bystander walking in the water noticed the child on the bottom of Wirth Lake in about four feet of water around 5:30 p.m.
Lifeguards pulled the boy to shore and began CPR. He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale where he was pronounced dead.
The victim's name hasn't been released. But authorities say he was from Golden Valley and was at Theodore Wirth Park with family for a birthday party.
This is the sixth drowning in Hennepin County so far this year.
