MINNEAPOLIS - The sound equipment is torn down, the trucks are packed up and down the road, and the Minnesota Twins are calling Target Field's first concert venture a huge success.
Twins Vice President Kevin Smith says the final tally at the gate for Sunday's country twin bill starring Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney attracted 42,524 paying customers, a major success at the gates.
Smith says a handful of fans were ejected for drinking issues but overall called the crowd well behaved. The team is still trying to tabulate how much beer was sold.
The major concern with an event this size concerned the impact on Target Field's highly lauded grass field. Smith says center field has some brown spots and foul areas have some discoloration from the placement of stage rigging.
Members of the grounds crew will get a better handle on the full extent of field damage Tuesday or Wednesday. Right now they are letting the grass rest after concert crews took up the field covering.
