MANKATO, Minn. - A woman convicted of fatally shooting her husband while he slept at their Blue Earth County home could be released from prison in 15 years.
In a plea deal with prosecutors, 35-year-old Jennifer Nibbe admitted shooting her husband, James Nibbe, in the head with a shotgun in August 2010 at their home near Lake Crystal.
Nibbe pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison. A first-degree murder charge was dismissed, along with the possibility of a life sentence. The Free Press says Nibbe received credit for time already served and good conduct.
Nibbe initially told investigators an intruder had shot her husband. Nibbe's attorney says he was prepared to show at trial that Nibbe was a victim of "ongoing physical and sexual abuse."
