RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Authorities in River Falls, Wisconsin are investigating a triple murder involving three young girls.
Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a home in the 2700 block of Morningside Avenue to check the welfare of the children after receiving a call from their mother. She was concerned about their safety due to statements made by the father.
Upon entering the home, police noticed an odor of gas and discovered the bodies of three deceased children, ages 5 to 11.
The girls' father, a 34-year-old man, was taken into custody after turning himself in at the police department.
The mother of the children, who was not home at the time, is safe and assisting police in their investigation. Police are not commenting on the marital status of the man and woman.
"All of us are saddened by this tragedy," said Chief Roger Leque of the River Falls Police Department. "At this time, there is no danger to the greater community arising out of this incident."
Efforts are being made to offer support services for community members dealing with the tragedy. More information will be provided on the services as they become available.
