ST. PAUL, Minn. - Police say one man is dead following an altercation on a city bus in St. Paul early Wednesday morning.

An adult male was found dead on the steps of the Berean Church near the intersection of North Rice Street and Aurora Avenue West around 1 a.m.

The altercation began on Metro Transit bus route 16 and escalated as people left the bus near the church, according to police.

Officers were called after a report of two people fighting. When they arrived on the scene, they found a deceased male and two other people at the scene.

Police believe the man's death is not random but they do not know what may have prompted the altercation.

No arrests have been made at this time. Investigators are questioning two people that were involved on the initial call.

Rice Street was closed while crews cleared the scene.  It was re-opened around 6:30 a.m.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death and release the identity of the victim at a later time.
