RIVER FALLS, Wis. - It is safe to say that it has been a very emotional week for folks in River Falls who were faced with news that three young sisters were killed.
River Falls Days is typically a fun-filled festival, but after the death of 11-year-old Amara, 8-year-old Sophie, and 5-year-old Cecilia, the weekend takes on new meaning.
The girls' father, Aaron Schaffhausen has been charged with their death.
During Friday night's parade it was an awkward balance for some to smile and at the same time those three young girls weren't far from their minds.
Nikki Rudolph brought her family, in part, because she said it was just nice to be around people.
"Just to be together and with your kids and your family and your loved ones because it's awful, it's horrible," she said.
Horrible is how Adam Myszewski described it.
He and his family had a family night outside of town during the week to get away from the heartache.
His kids went to school with the three Schaffhausen girls. He believes Friday night perhaps can be the first night in what most likely will be a long road of healing.
"It's going to take some time but we'll heal as a community and we'll always remember those three girls," he said.
