SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Four people were injured Monday morning in an electrical mishap near the grounds of Shakopee Women's Prison.
Shakopee Public Utilities spokeswoman Renee Schmid says a crew was working on the electrical distribution system near the prison when the accident occurred. Two of the four were burned.
Allina Health Systems spokesman Tim Burke confirms four people were transported from the scene. Two were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Those two men, identified as Jay Abrahamson and Cody Schuett, remain hospitalized with significant burns. Friends have set up a fund to help their families pay for medical expenses.
The other two workers were taken to St. Francis hospital in Shakopee, treated and released.
John Schadl with the Minnesota Dept. of Corrections tells KARE 11 no prison staff or inmates were injured in the incident.
Residents tell KARE 11 they heard a loud pop or explosion around 8:30 a.m. and then their power went out.
Electricity was restored around 11:30 a.m.
