CANNON CITY TWP, Minn. - Sheriff's deputies said the body found inside of a burned car in rural Rice County on Sunday morning was a man, but the identification process is still underway.

The Rice County Sheriff's Office says deputies and Faribault Fire responded to a car fire at the intersection of 150th Street West and Acorn Trail in Cannon City Township around 5:20 a.m. Authorities discovered a body inside the car when they arrived.

The identity of the victim is unknown. An autopsy was done on Monday, but results are still pending. Toxicology tests were also done, but results could take several weeks to be completed.

The case is currently under investigation by the Rice County Sheriff's Office and the MN Regional Medical Examiner's Office.
