BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. - A Twin Cities Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post is miffed at an order from the Minnesota Department of Transportation that prevents them from demonstrating their patriotism.
The Palmer Lake VFW in Brooklyn Park has been flying American flags over five local highway overpasses for eight years. But now, the state has told the VFW to take them down.
The veterans complied, but think the law needs to be changed.
MnDOT says the issue isn't about patriotism, but distracted driving. It's against state law to place or affix any advertisement or object within the limits of a highway.
Former post commander Lee Ulferts says the flags haven't been a distraction in eight years.
