MINNEAPOLIS - After throwing in just two games since returning from the disabled list (DL) Minnesota Twins closer Matt Caps is back on the DL with a recurrence of shoulder problems.
The club described the problem as right rotator cuff irritation, and placed Capps on the 15-day DL. It is his second stay on the disabled list this season.
Righthanded starter Nick Blackburn will be recalled from Rochester to replace Capps on the 25-man roster. In two starts with the AAA Red Wings Blackburn went 2-0, with a 0.60 ERA (15.0 innings pitched, 1 earned run), including a complete game shutout on July 8.
Blackburn, who was on the Twins' opening day roster, went 4-5 with an 8.10 ERA (63.1 ip, 57 er) over 13 starts in his previous stint with the Twins.
