GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - KARE 11 weekend mainstay Eric Perkins has been named the new KARE 11 Sports Director.
The decision was announced Thursday.
Perkins will lead the KARE 11 Sports department and join Julie Nelson, Randy Shaver and Belinda Jensen at the anchor desk for KARE 11 News weeknights at 5, 6 and 10 p.m.
"Eric brings his definitive, proactive style to sports anchoring as he joins the strongest weeknight anchor team in the Twin Cities," said John Remes, President and General Manager of KARE 11.
"Perk," who is active on Twitter and Facebook, had recently been serving as both news and sports anchor for KARE 11 Weekends in addition to co-hosting KARE 11 News Saturday with Belinda Jensen.
"Our new weeknight anchor team is a multimedia powerhouse. Now more than ever, we'll be working together with our audience to share, connect, and bring the kinds of stories to light that our viewers feel need to be told," said KARE 11 News Director Jane Helmke.
The new weeknight KARE 11 News anchor team will start when Perkins returns in August from London where he is covering the 2012 Olympics.
Eric will be leaving his role as co-anchor on KARE 11 Saturday to focus his talent and energy on leading the sports department in his new position.
