GOLIAD, Texas - Investigators say a single-vehicle wreck in rural South Texas has left 14 people dead and 10 hurt.

At least 23 people were crammed into the bed and cab of the pickup truck when it veered off a highway and crashed into trees Sunday evening in Berclair, about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Greg Palmore says nine people remain hospitalized following the most recent death.

Palmore says the 11 men and three females who died include illegal immigrants from Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.

The accident occurred in rural Goliad County, about 90 miles southeast of San Antonio Sunday evening. Authorities say the overloaded pickup ran off the road and crashed into a stand of trees.
