ROSEVILLE, Minn. - Two major construction projects will trigger complete closures on stretches of heavily-used Twin Cities interstate this weekend, impacting hundreds of thousands of metro motorists.
The first involves Interstate 494 in Bloomington. Both directions of I-494 between Hwy 100 and I-35W will be completely shut down from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for removal of the Xerxes Avenue Bridge.
MnDOT advises motorists to detour using Highway 100, Highway 62 and Interstate 35W.
The second closure involves the eastbound lanes of Interstate 694 between I-35W and Lexington Avenue. All eastbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday so crews can switch traffic to the newly completed westbound lanes.
The signed detour will direct motorists south on I-35W, east on Highway 36, then north on I-35E.
Westbound I-694 will not be impacted and motorists will be able to reach the eastbound interstate from Lexington Avenue, Victoria Street and Rice Street.
For more on these closures and other road projects that will disrupt traffic log on to the MnDOT website.
