HASTINGS, Minn. - A 38-year-old Buffalo man was sentenced to a year in jail Tuesday afternoon for the death of two women and an unborn child in a highway crash two years ago in Lakeville.

Prosecutors say Jason Styrbicky took his eyes off the road before he crashed his semi truck into traffic on Interstate 35 on May 24, 2010.

Styrbicky was convicted last year of three counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of careless driving.

Styrbicky told investigators he was trying to grab an energy drink when he crashed into cars that were stuck in traffic.

Killed in the crash were Pamela Brinkhaus, 50, of Elko New Market; Kari Rasmussen, 24, of St. Anthony, and Rasmussen's unborn baby.
