HASTINGS, Minn. - A 25-year-old St. Paul was sentenced to nearly nine years in prison in connection with a shooting that nearly claimed another man's life.
Stanaley Yoeun was sentenced Wednesday to 225 months after being convicted by a Dakota County jury of second degree attempted murder.
Prosecutors say Yoeun shot a 28-year-old man in the chest outside the Cherokee Tavern in West St. Paul last November 16. The bullet lacerated the victim's liver, collapsed his lung and damaged his diaphragm, causing significant internal bleeding. The injuries were so serious that the victim required a number of surgeries and spent two weeks unconscious.
Investigators say the victim had been dating Yoeun's former girlfriend at the time of the shooting.
"The victim in this case almost died from this shooting," said Dakota County Attorney Jim Backstrom following the sentencing. "We are pleased to have brought Stanaley Yoeun to justice for this violent crime."
