BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - The Mall of America officially turns 20 years old on Saturday. After opening amid doubts from many people, the mall now welcomes over 40 million visitors every year.
The Mall of America says that's more than the combined population of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Canada.
The mall has a number of things planned Saturday to celebrate the anniversary. Mall staff will hand out 500 of several items for free between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. They will also be serving 2,000 pieces of cake, from Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, starting at 2 p.m. Twin Cities Beer Fest will also be happening outside from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
KARE 11's Bryan Piatt spent the morning at the mall learning more about the memorable moments over the years and finding out how you can take part in this weekend's celebration.
