ST. PAUL, Minn. - A 26-year-old Maplewood man was charged Monday after the shooting death of a college student who responded to an ad on Craigslist.

Steven Emmanuel Lewis was charged with second degree murder and first degree aggravated robbery in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Aung Thu Bo.

St. Paul police say Bo found an ad on Craigslist for an iPhone. Saturday afternoon, Bo and his girlfriend drove to meet Lewis, who had allegedly posted the ad on Craigslist. Lewis then asked Bo to drive to his house for the phone.

Police say Lewis got in the backseat of Bo's car where he allegedly robbed Bo and his girlfriend before shooting Bo in the head.

Bo was taken to Regions Hospital where he died from his injuries.

"In this case the victim did a lot of things right," said Howie Padilla with St. Paul Police.  "He talked to the person and arranged a meeting in a public place, but it was in a confined area."

Padilla said it's a reminder to anyone who arranges transactions from online auction sites.

"Make sure you ask questions and get an idea of who you're working with," he says.  "Find out why what your're getting is such a good deal."

Lewis is being held on $500,000 bail.

Ramsey County officials say Lewis has four prior felony convictions.
