MINNEAPOLIS - Maria Green of Minneapolis said she has a mobile health fair to thank for saving her life.
Green was walking to the store with her family in May when she spotted Health Fair 11 in the Q-munnity at the North Community YMCA.
A variety of free health screenings were being offered like cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure. Instead of walking around it, Green walked to it.
Green decided to get her blood pressure checked. It turns out her blood pressure was so high, they said she would have likely had a stroke if she had walked back home.
Green was taken to the hospital where she spent 5 days.
Now Green's blood pressure is under control.
When the Q-munnity mobile was back in her neighborhood last weekend, she stopped by to say what a lifesaver it had been for her.
Green said she moved here from Detroit in February and didn't have a clinic. Now she does and she's getting other health issues taken care of, including an upcoming eye surgery.
Health Fair 11 along with North Memorial and UCare, will have the Q-munnity mobile parked at two Minneapolis locations this weekend.
On Friday, August 17th, 2012, it will be at an event for the Sexual Violence Center at Dowling and Fremont Avenues North from noon to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, August 18th, 2012, it will be at the Hue-man Boys to Men event at the Sabathani Community Center in South Minneapolis from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
