DANBURY, Wis. - Detectives are at the home of Reena Mae Williams Thursday, one day after the body of the 3-year-old girl was found in a canal 25 yards from her home.
Reena was first reported missing Tuesday evening. Her body was found late Wednesday afternoon.
Burnett County Sheriff Dean Roland says the canal where her body was found was drained but nothing of note was found.
Roland and his investigators are in the middle of the arduous task of going over every inch of the property where the girl was found dead.
"All options are on the table. We will look where the investigation leads us for any kind of charges that maybe filed," said Sheriff Roland.
So far it's still being treated as tragic accident, but he calls it an open investigation. They're using three-dimensional mapping to assist in their efforts.
"I really don't know what to think," said neighbor Vince Lapre.
Lapre saw Williams wandering barefoot across the street in the park with her dog on Tuesday afternoon, the day she was reported missing.
"That wasn't the first time that she's been seen wandering around," he said. "Over the last several weeks I've seen here a couple different times."
Lapre's neighbor, who was too shaken up to comment, brought Williams back home around 5 o'clock only for her to wander off again.
"We are aware of the fact that she had been brought home, was turned over to her father, and that it was an hour and half later that she was reported missing," said Roland.
Darrell Young was fishing in the canal Tuesday afternoon and says he urged Williams' mother Jenna Danish to call the sheriff's department after she came to him worried about her daughter.
But he says she wouldn't make the call, so he did.
It's a call that prompted hundreds of people to help search with an ending for which no one was looking.
"To come to find out she was that close is the thing that really hits you," said Lapre.
Investigators were at the girl's home Wednesday night and again early Thursday morning. Investigators still have control of the house while the family is not inside. Roland said the family is cooperating and he anticipates the family being allowed back inside sometime Thursday afternoon or evening.
The FBI is no longer assisting with the investigation.
