KANDIYOHI COUNTY, Minn. - Three people are dead after a head-on crash in Kandiyohi County Friday night, according to police.
A grandmother, her daughter, and granddaughter were killed when their minivan collided with pickup truck on Highway 12 just after 9 p.m. The State Patrol says the minivan went into a ditch after the collision and then burned.
Police have identified the victims as Marta Stoffers, 68, of Atwater, Minn., Michelle Hoffman, 40, of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Julia Hoffman, 8 of Eden Prairie, Minn.
Jason Hoffman, the 5-year-old grandson who was also in the minivan, survived the crash and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. He is in critical condition.
Authorities say the truck was driven by a 21-year-old man from Norwood who had alcohol in his system and an open bottle in the vehicle.
The State Patrol says was the driver treated at a hospital and then arrested.
