MINNEAPOLIS - A robbery investigation ended with a Minneapolis Park Officer being stabbed and the suspect shot on Tuesday night.

Authorities say two officers from the Minneapolis Park Police were dispatched on reports of a man who had been robbed at knifepoint by multiple suspects around 11:30 p.m.

A four-year veteran female officer and a nine-year veteran male officer encountered a man at the intersection of Bryant Avenue South and Minnehaha Parkway West on the south side of Minnehaha Creek.

Police say when the officers approached the suspect he assaulted and stabbed the female officer in the upper torso with a knife.

The male officer then fired shots at the suspect.

The female officer was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of what police say are non-life threatening injuries, including a stab wound and laceration to the head.

The suspect also was transported to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. He is listed in stable condition.

A knife was recovered at the scene.

Police tell KARE 11 this is the first officer-involved shooting for the Minneapolis Park Police Department.

Both officers are on standard paid administrative leave.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Minneapolis Police TIPS Line at 612-692-TIPS (8477).
